Homework
At BGS we have high expectations of all students. The setting of meaningful independent tasks for students to complete outside of their normal lesson time can have a positive impact upon progress as well as practising good learning habits and helping to develop resilience.
Research has shown that the regular setting of meaningful homework can have a positive impact on progress. In the most effective examples, homework was an integral part of learning rather than an add-on. Studies also suggest that setting too much homework can have a negative impact upon progress and motivation.
To create good learning habits at KS3, the setting of homework is more structured than at KS4, ensuring that students develop a resilience and understanding of the importance of homework before studying examination subjects.
At KS3 students are encouraged to complete a range of activities across the subjects they study. In addition to completing these tasks, students will be able to access the BGS Super Curriculum which is designed to promote independent learning around subjects of their choosing. Often, these projects ignite a passion in students and inform their options for KS4 study.

Homework at KS4
At KS4 the expectation is that students will be set tasks regularly across a range of subjects to enhance their understanding of the GCSE content. Any task set by the class teacher will be important to complete. In content heavy curriculums, it is vital that tasks are set through the discretion of the classroom teacher and that students complete tasks in a timely manner. However, to ignite a passion for learning, KS4 students can still access our Super Curriculum and complete numerous tasks in areas they are passionate about.
