Headteacher's Welcome

As the oldest state school in the country, dating back to c.700, we are extremely proud of our rich history and traditions. This said, however, we are very much a forward thinking school that embraces modern, proven educational practice in order to provide an engaging and nurturing environment for all of our students.

It is the people within a school, or any institution, that enable it to flourish and we believe that at Beverley Grammar we have a wonderful set of staff, students, governors and supportive parents who make it a great place to be.
Working in partnership with parents is important to us as we aim to provide the best possible pastoral care alongside our high quality of education.

“When we visited the school our son felt comfortable and happy. The staff were warm, friendly and engaging” Y7 parent

“Beverley Grammar School is a remarkably inclusive, friendly and welcoming school. It is an exciting place to learn.”

Gavin Chappell HeadteacherOur unique ethos is founded upon the strong, positive relationships between staff and students. This ensures that our high levels of academic challenge are undertaken in an exceptionally supportive atmosphere, which enables students to thrive. This ethos continues into the Sixth Form (Beverley J6) which we have run jointly with Beverley High School for Girls for several decades

We encourage and support all of our students to achieve their personal bests, but recognise that secondary age children often have complex lives that demand additional pastoral care and attention. To this end we have dedicated and experienced student support, learning support and safeguarding teams who strive to meet the needs of all of our students.

We look forward to welcoming you and your child into the BGS community.
