Reasons for studying this course
This GCSE provides an interesting and stimulating course; we look at real businesses and real entrepreneurs. Business is one of the most widely taught courses at university and offers excellent employment prospects. You will develop decision making skills, which will help you in all aspects of life and provide you with the tools to organise your own business should you choose to.
Course Content
The specification includes:
- A focus on small businesses and all aspects of business start-ups in their formative years from the initial business idea to the stage where they may consider growing.
- A focus on building a business, which looks at all the functional areas of business including marketing, finance, human resource management and operations management.
- A focus on the impace of Business Ethics, the Environment, Government, the European Union, Economic Issues and Globalisation
- A focus on quantitative skills from a business context, which looks at key calculations and interpretation of their impact, for example ratio analysis and investment appraisal
Skills and attributes needed to be successful in this course
A genuine interest in business is essential as there will be an expectation to keep up to date with the world of business through news articles, business programs and in depth research.
There will be a requirement to carry out calculations and numerical comparisons; therefore, you should have a good level of numeracy.
There will be a requirement to write extended answers, therefore, you should have good levels of literacy.
