  Key Stage 4
GCSE Maths

Classes are set for Mathematics, so the content of lessons is tailored to suit the ability of the students in each set. This is intended to allow you to make the best possible
progress. There is a considerable degree of overlap between the sets. The level of entry in the examinations, either Foundation or Higher, is determined by ability; sets 1 to 3 follow the Higher course and sets 4 to 6 follow the Foundation course. A decision will
be made in collaboration with students and parents during year 11 as to which tier
students in set 3 will sit. This allows students to target their areas of focus to make the
best possible progress.

This course has three exams, which are all sat in the Summer of Year 11. Each paper
lasts 1 hour 30 minutes and is worth a third of the overall grade. All three papers
contain a mix of question styles, from shorter questions, through to multi step
problems. As a student progresses through the paper, the mathematical demand
increases.
