PSHE overview and KS4 Curriculum
PSHE prepares all of our students for life in school and beyond. It complements the subjects you study by providing opportunities for deeper discussion of some of the important issues you will face in the adult world. It will also allow you to see others in the world clearly, understanding what makes us who we are.
You are encouraged to develop the skills which help you make informed decisions and judgements. You will explore the results of your own attitudes and actions on yourselves, along with that of others.
PSHE will be delivered in Form time (Y10 and Y11), a fortnightly hour session (Y10 only) and on specific enrichment days (drop-down days) throughout year 10 and year 11. The sessions will provide you with knowledge, allow debate and promote empathy and tolerance.
There are a number of topics you will cover in PSHE sessions. Some of these include:
Mental health: Mental health and ill health, stigma, safeguarding health, including during periods of transition or change.
Careers and financial information: The impact of financial decisions, debt, gambling and the impact of advertising on financial choices. Possible career options and planning for the future.Application processes, and skills for further education, employment and career progression.
Healthy relationships: Relationships and sex expectations, pleasure and challenges, including the impact of the media and pornography. Personal values, assertive communication (including in relation to contraception and sexual health), relationship challenges and abuse.
Exploring influence: The influence and impact of drugs, gangs, role models and the media.
Addressing extremism and radicalisation. Communities, belonging and challenging extremism.
Building for the future: Self-efficacy, stress management, and future opportunities.
